5th Celebrate Joan 5K Run & Fun Walk
Sunday, November 28, 2010 | Lehigh Parkway

Join us for the 5th Annual Celebrate Joan 5K Run & Fun Walk! This year, we're kicking it up notch and offering an official timed 5K run for athletes and a fun run or walk for those who don't wish to compete.

We're encouraging online registrations to ensure that everyone gets a shirt. Register online before November 21 to take advantage of the early-bird rate of $20. Entries after November 21 or onsite at the race will be $25. Please contact us if you wish to fill out and mail in a paper registration form.

Check-in begins at 8am and closes at 9:45am.
The run begins at 10am.
Stick around afterward for the raffle!

Timed runners will start first, with the fun walk to begin immediately after the start of the run. Men's and women's prizes will be awarded for each age bracket, and there will be a raffle for additional prizes at the end of the race. Finish line and timing service by Pretzel City Sports.

This event is family-friendly and we encourage kids in strollers and dogs on leashes.

Beneficiary: The Joan Zamborsky Memorial Trust Fund
Since 2006, the Zamborsky family has organized a yearly event where friends and family have gathered to get some exercise and contribute to a great cause -- the VISTA alternative education program of the Allentown School District. Joan taught at VISTA for many years, and proceeds from previous events have gone toward buying a wide range of much needed computers, supplies, books, and other equipment.

More information about the Fund, including where to send individual donations, is available here.

Location
This year's event will be a scenic route through Lehigh Parkway, with the start line near the intersection of Fish Hatchery Road and Keystone Road. Additional maps and directions will be posted shortly, and feel free to email us with any questions.

Come out and support a great cause and exercise off some of those Thanksgiving treats!

Here are few notes/pics/stories from folks who couldn't make it to Allentown but Celebrated Joan with their own "remote" walks:

Dan, Madeline, Liliane, Amélie Mahoney
Unfortunately we didn't make it back to Allentown for Thanksgiving, so we missed the walk this year. On Saturday we strolled through the streets of Hannover, Germany and enjoyed the city's Christmas Market. I estimated our journey to be at least 4k-ish, and we sent some positive thoughts and vibes to all of you walking in Allentown.

Regards,
Dan, Madeline, Liliane, and Amélie Mahoney

There were also some Germans who did a nice walk! Enclosed you find two pictures of us. Also Luis, our 16-month old son, had a lot of fun.We hope that the walk was a success again.

Best greetings,
Doris, Luis, Wolfgang and Oliver

Sorry I won't be able to join you tomorrow in person for the walk for Joan. I did walk 10K yesterday in the Cincinnati Turkey Trot and was thinking of you all then. Hope you have good weather and a great turnout. I will be with you in spirit. Joan was a wonderful lady and I am so glad you continue to celebrate her special spirit.
